he studio is two rooms on the fourth floor, above a bakery. The stairs are steep and the light is very good.

The front room is for people: a long table, six chairs and the coffee machine. The back room is for work — the light table, the flat files and one wall of prints that changes every month.

There is no shooting space here. I photograph on location, always, and the studio is where the photographs come back to be read, sorted and argued about.
