Plate 01 — The diving board
The pool opened at seven. By eight it belonged to the swimmers, and by four it was empty again.
Plate 02 — The 7 a.m. swim
Three mornings
We shot over three mornings in late August, between the first swim and the moment the lifeguards opened the umbrellas. Ilse knew the board from childhood; she climbed it twice and never jumped.
Everything was lit by the pool itself — the turquoise throws a cool light up onto skin and towels, so we kept the styling to white, red and the occasional stripe.
